George Bramhall Paintings

Past board member Jean Fowler has donated four George Bramhall oil paintings to STHS upon the occasion of her moving to Florida. While we are sad to see Jean and her husband Michael leave Solebury, we are happy to get such a nice donation that Jean stipulates should be sold for the benefit of the Society.

George Bramhall, who retired to Solebury, took up painting later in life. In addition to becoming an accomplished painter and building up a reputation as an active community member, he was instrumental in staging art exhibits to raise money for cancer research. The Bucks County chapter of Fox Chase Cancer Center continues to hold the George Bramhall Memorial Art Exhibition and Sale every year, which testifies to his not-forgotten impact and dedication.

The Historic Society, in line with Jean’s wishes, has sold two paintings and continues to offer two more for sale. The donations will all go to the Society’s endowment fund, and the suggested prices/donations range from $200 to $250. The paintings can be seen during the schoolhouse’s open hours Wednesday 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., or by appointment. Please call Robert McEwan 215 479 4711 for more details.
