May 19th – Lumberville History Walk

Sunday, May 19th, 2024 at the Lumberville Canal Lock, 1:00 PM.

This history talk will be along the Canal towpath discussing the early times of Lumberville before and after the Delaware Canal was built through the town in 1830’s. The Gordon’s Gazetteer of 18O3 describes Lumberville as “a considerable market for lumber” hence the name. We will revisit the times, people and businesses that made Lumberville a place on the National Register of Historic Places. Parking location and more details to be posted.

Jun 9th – Show and Tell at the Schoolhouse

Sunday, June 9th, 2024 at STHS, 2pm 

Do you have an interesting piece of family history? A great story to tell? A house with an interesting history? A good ghost story? Or are you just interested in stories about Solebury and Bucks County? This is your opportunity to get together with others in the community who are intrigued by history, particularly the history of our area.

Come join us in the old schoolhouse at N. Sugan Rd and Old York Rd on Sunday afternoon, June 9th from 2pm to 4pm. We’ll be bringing together people from the area who are intrigued by history to share and learn from each other. Bring your item, book, map, deed, or whatever helps tell the story. Feel free to share your thoughts — or, just sit around and listen.

Attendance is free for STHS members, $10 for non-members. So, for all you non-members out there, joining is a great way to save money.  For tickets got to Eventbrite 

Jun 22nd – An Afternoon at the Samuel Armitage Mansion

Samuel Armitage – “The Old Mansion” in 1876

The Solebury Township Historical Society proudly presents an afternoon at the Samuel Armitage Old Mansion on Saturday June 22nd at 3 pm. Our hosts and STHS members, homeowners Kate Surmay and Paul Kenny, have graciously offered an exclusive STHS members-only opportunity to visit this significant historical property. Samuel Armitage is credited with constructing the first mill along the Cuttalossa Valley.

The mansion house dates to the 1750’s and the classic three bay English-style barn dates to 1786. The barn underwent a major historical renovation in 2022. Guests will be provided tours of the barn and property, including perennial gardens and native wildflower meadow, along with live music, appetizers, and drinks.
