Thomas Bye owned property on Byecroft Road in Holicong. It is known that a former slave named Benjamin Jones, known as Big Ben, worked for Thomas and other farmers in the area. Big Ben was recaptured and taken south. Because he was injured, no one in the South would pay the amount demanded for him. The people in Pennsylvania who knew him and for whom he had worked raised the money, purchased him, and returned him to freedom in the area.
